86 K5 No idle?

86 K5 No idle?
I just bought a 86 K5 with 78K miles. But, it won't idle. It is
really rough at idle and is reluctant to take the gas from the accelerator.
But, when I finally get it going, it runs smooth down the road at
what ever speed. But, when coming to a stop light it cuts off.
It acted just like a bad modulator valve. And, the guy at the local
Autozone sold me a modulator. But, I can't find it on the trans?
Can someone help?
