Default 89 K5 4lo will not engage

Truck has a turbo 350 and I guess a stall convertor. Not that it matters for my question. We cant get it to engage into 4 wheel low. The shifter moves between 2hi and 4 hi like normal. But will not go into 4 low at all. Where do I start? Thx

Have you tried engaging 4LO with the transmission in neutral and the truck just slightly rolling? Sometimes it can be a bit difficult to engage 4LO if the gears inside the transfer case are not perfectly aligned. Rolling can help them mesh up.

kind of a long shot but if your truck has a body lift i believe the shifter wont reach 4low unless you cut a notch in the floor. i remember having to do that to one of my trucks.

Good call on the BL. I had to trim both front and back of the opening on my '74 with NP203. Couldn't reach low or high lock.

For 4lo you must have the trans in neutral but it can depend on the transfer case. If you have a 205 that is gear driven it must be in neutral not moving. If its a 208 you still must be in neutral but can be rolling slowly.

I don't know which t-case I have. The lift is all suspension. Not body. I have room on the body. Just won't engage. I haven't tried to engage while it's rolling. I will try that.
