I'm interested in replaceing my old intake with an cold air after market. So far I can only find two intakes for a 91 4.3: the Volant and the K&N.
Volant Cold Air Intake - JCWhitney
K&N 57 SERIES HIGH FLOW PERFORMANCE COLD AIR INTAKE KITS - JCWhitney
I had the K&N one before but I removed it to pass smog and didn't notice too much of a diffrence and I just bought a new filter so I left the old one on.
Any comment one the Volant? I read that the radiator overflow tank needs to be replaced with a 94' tank that mounts near the firewall instead of the fender. Kinda looks like a $300 plastic box with a hose. I know it won't pass smog could I get it shipped to CA for "off road use" only?
Any other possible options would be appreciated!

I have a second gen but I have the volant system on mine and I love it. There is no modification necessary to mount it. They install really easy actually. The K&N you posted isn't really cold air as it pulls air from the top and around the motor. I'm sure its still a great filter tho. I can say you won't get the huge gains in hp and torque that they all claim. I did notice a small increase in mpg with the Volant until I put the stupid tbs on it and now I've just been to lazy to take that off. I know what most people will do is just buy the ebay cheapy kit and then install that but change out the filter to a Spectre or K&N filter. Hope it helps and I'm sure a few first gen people will be along soon to help you out as well. Good luck and keep us posted on what you get.
