well mine is a 01 4 door w/ push button 4wd...not sure on the exact setup you have but I know on mine its vacuum controlled the actuator (under the battery box on mine) could be cracked, also there could be a bad vacuum switch on the transfer case suckin up fluid in it which can get all the vacuum system from there, also the way my front axle is setup if you tear down the passenger side and slide the axle tube off where the cable comes in from the actuator then you will there is a shaft that enters the diff...with a cog on the end then there will be a sleeve that slides on that with a shift fork in it kinda like you would see in a manual trans...ok all good there now this is why mine wouldn't engage after that sleeve and all that you insert the rest of axle which also has a cog that can be worn too the point that when you hit the 4wd button the transfer case goes into gear activating the vacuum switch and actuating the actuator to pull the cable and then it tries to engage the axle and cant because the gear is to worn.....that gear alone is a hundred buck from my local dealer and I haven't found any aftermarket availability...wished I had machines I could just do some fabricating and fix mine lol....good luck on fixing it

When the key is turned on the lights should blink once. No lights on the buttons at all would lead me to check 3 things.

-blown 4wd fuse
-bad switch
-bad TCCM

Check all connections and make sure they are clean and secure
