Default 94 Jimmy won’t shift out of 1st..

I recently bought a 94 jimmy. Looked good on the outside but it was a nightmare inside. After much persuasion, I pieced it back together. Got her running and thought it was road worthy.. took for its first test drive and it won’t shift out of 1st gear in both OD and drive. I have reverse and park no problem. But only shifts into 2nd by manually putting into 2nd with the shifter.. also noticed the anti lock brake light on and speedometer don’t work. I replaced the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the tranny and got no luck. Dropped the trans pan and replaced fluid, gasket and solenoid before putting back together. Still got nowhere.. suggestions?? Any help is appreciated.

What did the fluid you drained look like and what debris was in the pan?

The fluid actually looked pretty clean. Free of debris. We strained it and used some magnets to go through it as well. Didn’t see anything alarming at all.

I’m going to have look up a few things. LOL, my memory is running out of ram. 1994 is a unique year as GM stuck its toes into the electronically controlled unit. What solenoid did you replace?

I replaced the B shift solenoid that operates 2nd and 3rd. A tested still good so we did not replace it. I read online that the ignition switch could be the culprit. Think it’s possible?

The famous DRAC module. Check out the web site. https://www.udmodule.com/drac/. Will cause symptoms you describe.
good luck.

That is entirely possible. Since you mentioned that the anti lock brake light is on and speedometer don’t work, that alone tells me that it is quite possible the ignition switch is defective.
I'm on my 3rd ignition switch with my 97 and in each time I had some strange happenings occur prior to replacing the switch, but once it was replaced the problems all disappeared.

I went and picked up a new ignition switch. I’m going to try that first. If that doesn’t work I’m going to go hunting for that DRAC module. I’ll keep you posted.

I put in the new ignition switch and the vehicle is still doing the same problem. No shifting or speedometer. Ideas? DRAC module? I’ve never heard nor dealt with one.
