Default '94 S10 Blazer Check-Engine Light

Trying to get my '94 blazer back into working condition.. so far so good. It starts up just fine, but after driving it on the interstate at ~70mph for around 20-30 minutes and then exiting it starts to lurch/shudder and the engine sounds like someone is pressing the gas and then releasing, and the wonderful yellow CE light comes on...

There is also a noticeable gas smell around the car while it's running.. but nothing is leaking under the car. Could it be something in the fuel lines? Too much air? I'm not much of a mechanic, so any tips are very much appreciated

I am not sure what city you are in but most autp shops will run the engine light test for free. The codes will tell you what is failing. With the smell of gas, sounds like you may need a dist and coil replacement. Does it hesitate? May just want to get a tune up. Plugs, wire, dist cap and coil, air filter and check the O2 sensors. Good luck, post follows up on the tests.

You can run the codes yourself for the cost of a paperclip. Check TroubleCodes.net for the procedure.

The CPI motor that your truck is equiped with has a problematic fuel system. It is possible that you have a leak internal to the engine which is causing it to run very rich.
