Question 95' Blazer V6, Odd fuel problem.

Hello,

I've done several searches trying to get some answers before I go spending more money on new parts. Last week my truck simply cut out while coming off the interstate. I was unable to refire, had to tow it home. I assumed from the way it died it was fuel related, and since the previous week leading up to this during the heavy rains we've had here I've been having a dead cylinder and a misfire condition.

I replaced the fuel pump and filter about a year ago, so my first inclination was a dead spider injector. Since to get to the injector you have to take the plenum off, I'm also performing a full tune up.

That being said, I noticed when turning the ignition on the fuel pump is now making a really deep groaning sound, not the sound it normally would make. So I pulled the fuel filter, then turned the ignition to run, the pump whines, but no fuel comes out of the line.

Drained the fuel filter and a fair amount of dirt came out with the gas. Not sure where to go from here..

Thanks for any advice in advance,

TC

If the pump runs but doesn't squirt fuel, there's a problem with the pump. Could be excessive dirt in the tank clogged the filter at the pump, or it could be a bad pump.

That was what I was leaning towards, just wanted to get a second opinion before a buy another new one. Any tips on cleaning the tank out? I'd rather avoid buying a new one..

If you remove the fuel pump module, you should be able to see if there's dirt in the tank. If no dirt, the pump has a problem. What brand pump did you install?

Airtex.

But this time I'm putting in an ACDelco fuel pump. I was told ACDelco is a recommended brand for blazers.

Airtex pumps are fine, but not in a GM if you want it to run properly. Keep us posted.
