Default 96 4.3 timing issues

Ny blazer was getting about 10 mpg so i replaced the dist gear all that went well, but it wouldn't start when it was raining as long as it was dry it would run like a top... i got pissed at to no start with rain and sprayed everything in the engine bay to do with ignition down with water and nothing started fine.... so the next thing i did was pulled out my dist to check for cracks, and i forgot to mark it like a complete idiot so i did the steps on here to get it back in time and nada the most I've been able to get it do is backfire. I tried using the old screwdriver in #1 sparkplug hole to verify TDC and it doesn't quite work do the the way the heads are designed. Im getting no codes on the engine even if i disconnect the dist im still not getting a code. Any help here would be amazing.
Thanks jbb

I've used a plastic tie band to watch for tdc, but remember there are 2 marks on the balancer, make sure to use the right one, then it's just a matter of dropping it in the right way. But you have to remember that the number on the cap and where the rotor points is 2 different directions.

New icm and issue is still there.... i have no idea what this is but its rightfully pissing me off (timing issues etc are a pet peeve) it has fire the distributor looks fine pulled it checked for cracks nothing cap and rotor button are also fine.... No matter what i do tho it wont line up perfectly with the #6 on the dist if i put it forward one tooth its too far to the firewall, one tooth the oppisite way its too far away from the firewall but its damn close both ways, and yes the oil drive is lined up... I've tried using the screwdriver tdc check but i cant due to the damn head design. I can leave the dist unplugged and i get no codes at all, and i'm showing there is no cam retard or timing retard its saying its @ zero and doesn't adjust when starting just stays @ zero.
If anyone could help before i go find some c4 i would really really appreciate it.

So i found True TDC with some bailing wire, and the mark thats supposed to line up with the cam cover or w/e is about perfectly in the middle of my engine on the bottom... should i set the timing here? has my harmonic balancer slipped?

Also ill post pics soon

harmonic balancer should be on (0). make sure u are on compression stroke or u will be a 180 out. which if u r then it will back fire.

mines edi.... ive been using this https://blazerforum.com/forum/engine...-timing-10626/ and i dont think there is a (0) your talking about besides lining up the two marks... TDC isnt where its supposed to be.... its not TDC when the marks say it should be. on mine
