Default 96 to 99 upgrade

Hi, new to the board here... I have been test driving a 2000 Blazer because my 96 is finally hitting that body cannot keep up with the Drive train stage... my 96 has a Manual Overdrive that I only used on the highway... I always preferred the higher RPM's, and pick-up...So my question is about the OD-1-2-3....is it safe to drive it in 3rd?... is that the same as Drive vs. OD is in my 96?....

thanks for you time...

Other than using more fuel, there is no real difference in terms of transmission health driving in 3rd over 4th (OD). There really is no reason to do so though...

If your '96 was an automatic transmission (your description is confusing), then the transmission is virtually the same between the two.

ahh thank you... I didn't think the transmission's were different... but in my 96 the dash indicator read P-R-N-OD-D-2-1, as apposed to the OD-3-2-1 in the 99
