Default 97 4wd w/ P0753 code

When you put it in drive, it feels like it's taking off in 2nd gear. Also feels like overdrive is not fully engaging. I'm at 2500 rpms at 60 mph. Seems a little high. The code is for 1-2 shift solenoid electrical. I'v read that the problem can be caused by the ignition switch. My fear is that if it is a failure of the solenoid and I drop the pan, change it out, and put new fluid in it may cause the transmission to fail entirely. Short of going that route, what would you suggest?

I you go that route save the fluid and put what you can back in. Also depends on the fluid. If its red and semi clean looking you should be good. If its dark and smells burnt put it back in. But be warned, if its dark and burnt start saving your pennies

As newguy said save the fluid. Most times when it is the ignition system dropping power it sets several codes at once not just one. If you decide to change out the solenoid go ahead and change the other one. Use caution when removing and installing pan as it is tight on the crossmember and very easy to break shift solenoids. If pan shows black streaks or debris in pan reuse old fluid. Good luck! You could also change filter if so inclined.

Well, it was only a $600 vehicle after all, so if the trans does fail after this at least I'll have a parts car with a good engine. I will attempt to repair it next weekend. Thanks all!
