97 Blazer Idle Issues (Or So It Seems...)
You should see improvement after replacing the IAC.I took mine out and cleaned it and seen very little improvement till I replaced with a new unit.Im sure a tuneup will help also.I dont why hardly anyone mentions this when they are diccussing solutions for an engine thats running poorly,Get a can of seafoam and run it through you gas tank. Also take another can and run it through the power brake booster line going into the engine. This stuff works miracles and removes alot of built carbon in an engine with high miles.

I would start off with a tune up. Have you checked your dizzy cap and rotor for signs of arching? I would suspect those to be the issue.
I don't like k&n simply because of the oil. If it gets over oiled it will mess up the MAF and even if it doesn't get over oiled you will constantly be cleaning the MAF. I like the AEM dryflow, no oil, great flow. But if your just tryin to keep her going, I would spend the money else where, IMO.

Well, it's been a while since I have had a chance to update this thread. Figured out a few things about the truck. We did the spark plugs and wires on it, turns out I was missing the 6th spark plug completely. And the wire had a clean cut coming off the cap. After changing out the plugs and running new wires, it runs alot better, not to mention my milege has gone back up.
The next project to fix the ever so seeming mounting list of to-do's is cap & rotor. Possibly a dizzy replacement, not entirely sure yet.
We did run a code reader on it and got a few codes spit out at us. They were for the following..
1. MAF sensor (but, I already knew that one was a given...)
2. Camshaft Position Sensor
3. O2 Sensor
Those three are the next things to get fixed on the truck. Other than that it's been running pretty great actually. I am actually kind of hoping to get some real snow this winter in MN so I can put it in 4wheel and have a little fun with it.
I would like to thank everybody for the thoughts and posts trying to figure the issues out. Ya'll are great!.

Welcome to the forum, Dan.
First off...you asked a question and gave specifics as to what's happening. That's NOT a "stupid question".
Second...I am not a mechanic, but I have owned my Blazer for almost 15 years, and put nearly 200k miles on it. Mine was doing something similar...done it twice. Both times, it was the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. It would run fine for a few days, then do the same stuff you mentioned.
When you drive around...and you're going nice and smooth...does it ever feel like an invisible gremlin threw out an anchor for a second? Or like...your foot is on the gas, but it magically "lets up" even though you maintain steady pressure on the pedal?
Also...swing by the auto parts store and have them run a diagnostic (if you haven't already).
Last...you don't really own a Blazer...you're busted. *Unless we can see pics of her...
Again...welcome...this place is awesome!

plus It does do that little gremlin jerk for a split second while driving as well. Any ideas
