Exclamation Automaticgetriebe - driving position cannot be engaged

Please excuse my bad English, I need help urgently.

On my 2001 Trailblazer 4.3 AWD, I can move the gear selector to any position with no resistance and no transmission to the automatic transmission. I have to use the brake and the release button on the transmission selector to shift the lever out of park. but that's the only thing that still works properly. After that, I can slide the lever to all positions without feeling the usual click. I'm not a mechanic myself. The mechanics around here don't want to work on American cars.

Thank you in advance

Greetings from Croatia / Europe

The issue could be that the connection to the shift lever on the side of the transmission might have become undone.

I agree with Christine. I'd be checking the connection from the shift-lever cable to the transmission.

If the shift cable/linkage is ok, it might be the neutral safety switch. It sends an electrical signal to the transmission for what gear you want. It is mounted on the driver's side of the transmission and goes over the shaft that the linkage attaches to.
