Default Blazer Fuel Pump Problem

First, Hi. I'm new here, and I love my Blazer and I hope to frequent this forum so don't be surprised if you see me around.

Two days ago I had the fuel filter replaced in my 1997 Chevy S10 Blazer (4WD). The next day, when I was driving, my Blazer cut off, I was able to cut it into a space, and cut it back on after 10 mins of really trying. I checked, I didn't see anything immeditely wrong. The Blazer started back up, I figured, let me at least try to get to school, where the autoshop there could look at it. I was half way to school, where it cut out in the middle lane of morning rush hour. I was stuck there for an hour, where I could not get it to start, I couldn't really get out and check anything. Eventually the police were able to give me a bit of a push into a safer area, where I better checked it out. It turns out that the fuel pump failed, and did die on me. I took a hammer and banged on the pump a little, as that worked before when the pump died on me 1000 miles ago (It was replaced after that). It failed to start up. I eventually had to get it towed to my mechanic, whom the day prior had replaced the Fuel Filter. Seeing the timing, and what he did, could these two be related? I had no real reason to have it replaced other than just to make sure it was fairly new, and that way I could keep a bit of maintence schedule going for it. I'm having a new one installed, its not cheap either, 378 for parts + labor. So could a fuel filter that is not installed properly or something cause the fuel pump to fail like that?

Fuel filter only goes in one way, and if it was installed the wrong way it would have not started at all so no it is not a filter problem. I would think that the fuel pump you got recently wasn't a new one for a new one is about 300 by itself and labor on top of that would be more so I take it you got a used one put in!!

Well, a used one was put in 1000 miles ago, I looked at it, looked Brand new, perfect condition. Im surprised it lasted me only 1000 miles. Anywho I got a new one put in, and I'm waiting for the Bill, I got the truck back, runs fine, the new pump is rather noisey compared to the old one.

Mine went out last year. I was going downhill and it just died and took the brakes with it. It was pretty damn frightening, but not as bad as the $500 it cost to have replaced. And yeah, mine is loud too.
