Ok, so my fuel pump has gone out now. The cheapest one I can find is from Autozone, yet they still even want $300 for that one! So my question is, Has anyone ever installed a universal inline electric fuel pump? I've seen them at Summit and Jeg's for around $150 . I'm not talking about the 6 or 7 psi pumps that would replace a mechanical pump. I've seen them claim 60 -75 psi. So does anyone think this would work if I just hooked it up to the fuel line near the fuel filter or something? And if I can use a universal pump, can it suck the fuel thru the bad factory pump or will I have to drop the tank and remove that pump?

 

IMO, if you are going to take the time, do it right. You can find AC Delco pumps cheaper than $300. Do not buy the junk store brand pumps. To help further, we'd need to know what you are working on.

 

Sorry I forgot that part. I have a 97 Blazer 4x4 with a 4.3 v6, 4 door. Its just that this is basically my "beater" and money is very tight right now. I'm driving my SUburban at the moment since the Fuel pump went out in the Blazer. If you know of a place I can find a Delco pump for under 300 by all means, give me a link. It just that if I can get this thing running by using a $100 inline pump then I will gladly do so. I should also add that I'm not planning on keeping this Blazer very long, will most likely get rid of it by this summer or the fall, so I don't wanna invest a lot of time and money in it if I don't HAVE to.

 

I just replaced the in-tank fuel pump with a Walbro 255lph pump (for a Camaro) for $125 on my '02 Blazer. The only bad part is you have to take apart the plastic bucket to replace it. It's really not all the bad once you get everything apart and start matching components. The pump I got even had "Made in the USA" stamped on it that matters to you.

Also you'll still need to drop the tank add redo the in-tank fuel lines to bypass the stop pump. An inlline pump won't pull fuel through the stock pump most of the time.

I just found a replacement pump on Ebay for $65 shipped!! Maybe I'll just go that route and take my chances. Thoughts ?

ive ran the inline pumps so have alot of people i know who do offroading. simply for the simplicity of it. if one of those goes out you just bust out the spare and have its swapped in a matter of minutes. my first truck had it right under the drivers door in the frame. so i could hear that it was running

 

yea big reason they are so much is GM wants you to replace the whole frigging setup, sender , bucket and pump, F that crap, I got the ebay one too and just replaced the pump itself.. works good.

 

Im in the same predicatment except ive had to replace my tank can the line pump pull fuel through the in tank pump or do i have to modify the sender unit?? 89 k5 thanks

 

I want to put an inline fuel pump on my 1999 S 10. The walbro pump is what they use on the new trucks, ( not in the tank ) Question I have is this. What amount of pressure does the factory in the tank pump produce at the fuel filter? I know the injector needs 60 - 66 lbs to start, so the pressure regulator must receive more than required pressure to run, so will the walbro inline pump produce enough pressure to create the correct amount of pressure at the regulator? I realize that I have to remove the factory fuel pump and modify the pick up. Has anyone done this before?

The fuel pressure will/should be the same front to back irregardless. It's the volume or flow that might be an issue, but I highly doubt that with a stock spider assy.
