Default carbed and injected mpg

ok so my dads fuel injected 04 silverado 1500 gets roughly 17 mpg
its a 327
my stock blazer 262 gets around 16 to 17, and thats a 4 door 4x4

i did some browsing on v8 swaps, and i looked at three different pages where people put 350 v8 carbed engines into their blazers, and got 18-20 mpg. im still confused on how this happens. is it something with the power to weight ratio or what?

It is all in how they are setup and tuned. My Chevelle got 16-18MPG with the dual plane intake and Rochester Q-jet. It was tuned and running VERY well. After I swapped to the single plane Edelbrock Torquer intake and Holley 650 DP, it dropped to 10-12MPG. Although it got a TON more fun to drive. I did do a conservative driving test to see how good I could get and only mustered 13MPG.

The better the torque is at lower RPM, generally, the better the efficiency.
