Default Changed rotor, started. Now no start?

Hey folks,

My dad just bought a 1999 Chevy Blazer 2wd, and right now it's cranking but won't start. I checked out the sticky on these forums which gave me a general idea. We weren't getting fuel pressure initially, and we thought that may have been the issue at first. We had it towed to a mechanic who also thought it was the fuel pump. We replaced the fuel pump, no change - but we're getting adequate fuel pressure now. Mechanic then suggested changing crank sensor, which we did - no change. After a bunch of suggestions that didn't work from this mechanic, we towed the car back to my father's house. Today, he replaced the ignition rotor and the car started running perfectly. It started with ease. He was able to drive it, and start the car multiple times no problem. However, a few hours later... Crank no start again.

Any ideas? I find it odd that it was running perfectly once he changed the distributor rotor.. Which looked pretty bad.

Help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I wouldnt take any vehicles back to that mechanic, it doesnt seem like he actually tested any components, just played the guessing game like most backyard mechanics. I would bring it to a reputable mechanic that actually tests components with diagnostic equipment.

Not sure if you've checked it but i'd start with the ignition control module! Had the same problem with my first generation and it drove me crazy! Should be underneath the distributer! Very easy to remove and the parts store will check it

Uh, the ignition control module is mounted next to the coil on 2nd gens. And the cam sensor is mounted under the distributor cap, which btw... Has no bearing on wether or not motor will run...u can unplug the cam sensor , the motor will run either way....

hey there, i don't mean to jack your thread but also having an issue with a no start after an intake manifold gasket replacement...gregorian is there a way to test the map sensor? with dashcommand powered up, ignition on/engine off, the map sensor reads 99.0 kPa. I did damage the seal on it during disassembly and tried using ultra black rtv that i had left over to seal it back up. thanks in advance guys
