To keep it simple, think about the vehicles being made currently that are certified to run on ethanol. They did not just slap a 'E85' sticker on the body and roll them out the door. Anything not certified for E85 should not use it.

 

we (the governemnt fleet) got suckered into the E85 scheme. Long story short, i agree with everything said here about not just converting over to E85 unless the vehicle was made to do so! and pay attention to what fuel you put in what vehicle...

the cost of performing the swap of all the parts/components needed will not be worth it in the long run vs. the price of standard mogas. unless you plan to own that vehicle and keep it in good running condition for a WHILE...

According to some engineering classes....

You could run E85 on with your engine, but as everyone stated, the current setup from the fuel system around will not work like it should....

Also note that it was stated that the fuel lines would need replaced as well as different fuel filters... etc...

My chemistry teacher told us that if our gas lines would work with alcohol, ie higher proof liquor.... then we could fill our tanks up and run it, assuming you changed the fuel filter every few miles and it should work....
