Chugging on 1-2 shift

in my case im pretty sure my problem is in the transmission cause you can feel the transmission come out of 1st then the engine picks up in rpms (trans hesitates) drops into 2nd (kinda hard) then the rpms come back down.

Well, with tempered enthusiasm I think the cap/rotor swap made the difference. That's all I did tonight since I'm lazy, but based on what I found on the pictures below and the fact that the truck feels fine after doing that, I'm thinking it's probably good.
Close up of the wear on the cap, kind of hard to tell, but the pattern is irregular.
Another shot of the cap.
Top side of the rotor.
Underneath of the rotor. What would cause so much black dust in one area?
The distributor without cap/rotor. Towards the firewall (top of pic) you can kind of see an outline of the rotor mounting area that looks like something was burning. What the heck could cause this?
And finally, a video because I'm now paranoid and want to make sure my distributor is good still.
All in all, I seriously hope this thing is fixed and I can enjoy it for a bit. Thank you to everyone who has offered advice or suggestions so far, especially Swartllk who so far seems to have been the one to offer the winning suggestion.
