Default Compatible Replacement Engine

Hello all, I was wondering if a 4.3 from a 92 S10 is compatible in my 98 Blazer. I'm just wondering because the #3 cyl in the 4.3 vortec is gone and the mechanic said it would be cheaper to get a new engine than to repair the factory one. So, can I take the engine from my 92 and put it in my 98?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but no. The fuel injection and heads are completely different.

So I can't do a full on swap?

How are you going to control the older fuel injection? And you can't switch the newer fuel injection over to the older engine because the heads are different. And it certainly isn't practical to try to switch the PCM/wiring from the old vehicle into the 1998.

Just get a used 1996-2000 vin W 4.3 out of another Blazer. Tons of them out there and they will bolt in place and work correctly with your existing engine controls. Note that 2001-2004 vin W engines have a different knock sensor mounting on the block, or they would work as well.
