Question Crank Position Sensor preemptive replacement?

Hi all,

So while monitoring the forum a bit I have noticed that a crank position sensor malfunction can cause lots of problems. I then began to wonder if replacing my crank position sensor to prevent troubles down the road would be a good idea or not.

It seems like when they fail, you can lose the engine function and that is something I really don't want to happen when on a road-trip or back in the woods.

I guess what I'd like to know is if crank position sensors go bad gradually, giving you warning, or if they go bad all at once possibly stranding you where you are.

A LOT of crank position sensors are replaced needlessly, with claims here that it fixed something (only to find out later that it didn't). its a very simple device.

Plus know that you're supposed to do a crank sensor relearn if you want misfire detection to work correctly again after the crank sensor is disturbed or replaced.
