Unhappy Did Transmission Go???

I had told my husband earlier today that when I put my Blazer in reverse earlier, I could here a kind of "clank". It didnt' happen every time I put in in reverse but it did happen. He thought it might be my universal. I went to the store and I was driving my 2001 Blazer home when I heard this tremondously loud whirring sound. It was all of a sudden and very loud. I actually thought it was some machinery outside I was passing but then quickly realized it was my Blazer. When I put my foot on the gas, all it did was revved (spelling??) I put it in 2nd and made it to my home about 2 miles. When you start it up now you can hear the whirring sound right away at an idle. When you put it in reverse...its worse and louder. Is my transmission shot or could it be the screen (filter) is plugged and not getting any fluid? (which by the way was on the mark...the tranny fluid read fine) or could there be another problem. Its just that there were no previous signs of anything going wrong before today with the "clank" when I put it in reverse. No shifting problems at all, no problems when putting it in gear...everything just started today. Oh and we had just put a tranny in 2 years ago (not a new one but it did have a 6 month warranty) Any help would be so deeply appreciated. Thank you to all!!

I'm not sure what it will cost but the trans does have to come out.or at least slid back far enough.the pump is right behind the torque converter.. Call your local trans. shop and see what they say..keep us posted and good luck

There is more then one whine noise
Pump noise is a high pitch whine that increases with engine RPM
Planetary Gear noise is a whine related to car speed most noticeable in first or reverse

a whining or whirring noise heard in all gears except park and neutral is the torque converter
