Default disconecting torque converter Q

Ok I can not get the trans to slide back to get the torque converter bolts off, Is there a bolt on the very top of the trans that needs to be removed or how do you get the bolts off in that little hole?

You might want to provide some vehicle information...

I can assume that you have a 97+ truck with the full bell housing and aluminum engine oil pan. The torque converter bolts are not removed by pulling the transmission back to access them. Serious damage to the transmission pump can occur if this is attempted.

For the full surround transmission bell housing, remove the starter to gain access to the torque converter bolts. The plugs on the bottom of the bell housing can be removed to allow for rotating of the engine with a pry bar. You can also turn the engine over using a breaker bar & socket on the harmonic balancer bolt.

you are correct on the full flywheel cover. it is a 97 4wd. removing the starter looks like where I will go. thanks again..

ok I have 3 flywheel bolts out. and 7 around the outside of the housing. She will move a little. Seems like the last one i did slid off much easier.
72 350 is what I did years ago.

I see one more bolt on top, should be two. I will check back when thoes are off

still will not come apart. 9 bolts around the houseing and 3 out of the flywheel.

If you are sure you have all of the bolts out, then the transmission is likely held up on the dowel pins. The dowel pins are located at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions on the bell housing. They can sometimes be fun to get released.

At work now.... I did get it off the dowel pins after removing the very top two bolts . now I jsut have to get out the fill tube and get the quick disconects on the coolant lines to release. I am hopeing I can drop the trans a little to get at these two things better.
thank you so much for your help swartlkk. I owe you a case of beer....
