Default engine codes

dont really know where to post this but as i was going to buy a new o2 sensor and a egr valve they asked me what type of engine i had if it was either a z code or a w code. where do i find this information out? is it in the VIN or is it on the engine? a little bit of info would be nice. thanks

VIN Z == TBI (RPO LB4)
VIN W == CPI (RPO L35)

The engine character is the 8th in the VIN. RPO list is in your glovebox.
