Engine/fan
Not sure what it is but my engine or fan makes a very loud noise now. The fan was recently replaced and the noise is still very loud? Any thoughts?

Faulty fan clutch?? You did not happen to get a heavy duty fan clutch did you? I know that the one that we put on my dad's old farm truck would really roar and it was working properly. It was annoying enough that we would only run it in the summer time while towing.

im not sure. is there anything to identify if it is heavy duty? i guess the only thing to do is get a new fan?

No-fan clutch. Your fan is fine. Your clutch is what grabs it when needed and makes it really spin. When its not engaged, your fan clutch spins off cintrifical force alone.

You can check your fan clutch by spinning the fan once everything under the hood cools off. If it spins relatively free (close to one full rotation when you grab and spin the fan manually - engine off for obvious reasons), then the clutch is working properly. If it does not budge, then the clutch is locked up.

If its heavy duty, I believe that would make it kick in sooner.

it is very hard to turn. i notices this when checking the fan the other day. is there anything that can loosen this up?
#9
If it is hard to turn when the engine is cool, then the clutch is likely bad.

how much is it for a new clutch?
