I've been searching online what motor's I can drop in without reinventing the wheel!
My buddy has spare 99 motor and I would like to use it ,I know it's well maintained and low miles mine is getting tired!

You can go from 1996 up to (including) 2000 before the knock sensor mounting hole in the block changed. You may or may not need to use your original exhaust and intake manifolds on the later motor - match them up carefully. Change oil pan and oil pickup tube too if going between 2WD and 4WD.
