Default engine knocks

Hey everybody, I'm new to this and I was wondering. I have a 1994 LT Tahoe very clean only 104,000 miles. I was told I need to rebuild the engine as it sounds like it has a rod bearing knock (very loud). I got prices around $1400 - $1800. My question is, is this worth doing? How long is the transmission life? If I rebuild this will I then have to pull the transmission 6 months later?

Looking for some input.

Thanks in advance

That seems quite high. You could toss a reman'd engine at it for that price. That, of course, depends on your ability to do the work.

I priced it out both ways and I rather just rebuild what I have, but I'm still not sure if this is worth dumping this money into it, if the tranny will go soon as well, do you know about how long the trannies last on these?

if you just have a bad bearing then remove the oil pan, pull the bearing and check the crank. if you don't have any scarring then just replace it. They cost bout 5-10 bucks at advance auto parts. If you did end up getting scarring on the crank then pull it out and take it to a machine shop. Ones around here maybe charge round 60 or so.. all in all though your looking at about 100 after you pull and replace everything plus refill your fluids and such... hope this helps.
