Default Lower intake mani gasket knocks now

Hey guys I'm new here hope I'm in the right section. Been searing around the forums and found useful info but nothing quite what I'm dealing with. New owner of a 2000 4.3 Chevy blazer and had to replace the lower manifold gasket. All went together smoothly but I stupidly didn't notate where the distributor sat. Novice I know but I started her up today idled rough as hell had a loud knock and died a few times. No leaks oil has no metal shavings and is at normal level but reeks of fuel. Is there a chance I put the distributor in completely wrong and this is causing this issue? If so how do I fix this? Thanks in advance for any help!

Since none of the regulars responded yet, Yes... putting the distributor in wrong will do exactly that. If it starts and idles it may only be off 1 tooth. (i did that once or twice )

Thanks for answering man. I actually got the distributor in correctly now got it to perfect tdc and ligned it up perfectly on the 6 marked on the distributor. Now it runs smoothly sometimes then throws a code for random misfire. Idk what I could have done wrong there >.<

I like where newguy is going. Do some general maintenance on the vehicle and I'm sure you can get rid if the misfire. Cap and rotor is a good place to start, also do the spark plugs. If you haven't changed them before, go through the wheel wells, it's much easier.

Sensors are also pretty cheap and easy. I've never replaced any on mine and it has 150k on it now. I'm going to replace the map sensor and a few others. Do one every month keeping cost low. Easy to do, also. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the input guys much appreciated. Replacing the cap and rotor now didn't see there was a tiny crack in the cap. I hope this fixes it need it running asap! Lol oh well bought it for 500 bucks can't be too surprised it has issues. I'll let you know how it goes!
