Engine transmission swap from 4wd to a 2wd
Okay so I've got a 2002 Blazer and I have a 97 Blazer and I want to take the 97 engine and transmission out and put into the 2002 body is this feasible the 2002 is the two wheel drive and the 97 is a four-wheel drive I know it'd be a lot of work but that's a brand new transmission and engine that's in the 97 four-wheel drive but it's been wrecked so the Body and Frame is messed up. Whereas 2002 as an engine and transmission that's Factory and has over 300 thousand miles on it. Just looking for any opinions that's all thanks
Engine yes, transmission no. Output shaft in trans is completely different 2WD to 4WD.
Engine will need to switch oil pan, oil pump pickup, intake manifold, and exhaust manifolds and all other little stuff from the 2002 onto the 1997 engine. Will need to adapt 2-wire knock sensor in 2002 body to the mounting hole for 1-wire sensor on 1997 block.

+1 on the engine needing a few parts swapped, although its really not that bad... As far as the transmission you could swap it in if you used the trans crossmember, transfer case and driveshaft from the 4x4 into the 2wd blazer. And yes it would be silly to run a t case on a 2wd but if your just trying to keep your truck alive on the cheap it is an option, i believe all the provisions to mount the 4x4 stuff is on the frame already, And i suppose you could get 2wd low gear that way too if you mounted a manual shifter on the case.
Both transmissions will need to be taken apart completely to swap output shafts. You will need a new pump gasket and pump O ring. Should put new front seal At the same time. You will be able to reuse the O-ring for the extension housing over.
Not a terribly hard job to do but if you don’t have experience with the internals on this transmission you could do a lot of damage.
Good luck,
Brad
