Default Error Code 043

Hi, everybody (please be gentle with the newby)

I'm trying to diagnose a hesitation/no power problem in a '92 S-10 Blazer (4x4) with the "W" engine. When the problem originated I wasn't getting any error codes, and all I noticed was a slight hesitation at highway speeds under load. The next day when I headed for work I got about a mile down the road when it started to buck and just wouldn't accelerate (no backfire though). Because of the lack of error code, I replaced the wires, plugs, cap, and rotor (it was time anyway), and took it out for a road test. Started fine, but no change, still same symptoms. I then tested with a fuel pressure tester, thinking that I might have a clogged fuel filter. The pressure tester said that I was on the low end of the pressure range, but that I was still getting fuel. During this sequence an error code of 043 showed up, and I replaced the Knock sensor on the driver's side of the engine, but it appears that the electrical connector is broken (where do I find one of them? the dealer?). Also in reading Chilton and Haynes, they suggest that this engine might have a second knock sensor somewhere on the engine. Can anyone confirm this (and its location)? The sensor on the other side of the engine from the sensor I replaced looks more like a temperature sensor than a knock sensor. Anyway, the 043 error code continues to show up each time I clear it. Any other thoughts, anyone?

Default RE: Error Code 043

Without looking at my references, I can only say where I know the knock sensor is on the newer engines... The knock sensor is located on the back of the engine near the back of the driver's side head. This is the other possible location for a 2nd knock sensor if your engine indeed has two knock sensors.

I will try to remember to check my references when I get home to make sure.

Thanks, I'll take a look when I get home. Anything else that might come to mind will be greatfully appreciated.

P.S. Sorry that I put this in the wrong category. I entered it prior to looking at any of the posts. I'll know better next time.

Default RE: Error Code 043

I finally found the second knock sensor on the back of the engine on the passenger side, back in the middle of nowhere behind and underneath the distributor. Does anyone have any tips as to how to get to this sensor for replacement short of removing the engine? I tried to get my hand into the space where it was, and I fail to see how to get a wrench in there also.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
