fan clutch questions

Don't know which clutch you have, BUT, the severe duty clutch stays engaged longer, and engages quicker than the standard duty clutch, (OEM). The standard duty clutch is fine in the Winter, but come Summer, severe duty is the way to go, especially if you tow with the vehicle.

Just the opposite, the colder it is, the longer it takes for the fluid to warm up and transfer chambers.

I replaced mine with a parts store "severe duty".... that was a big mistake. That thing stayed engaged for miles on a cold start. Didn't seem right, I returned it and ended up swapped in a low mileage OEM. Now it roars for about 30 seconds in the morning and then shuts up. Seems to be functioning fine otherwise cause the only other time i hear it is in traffic with AC on when its 90+ degrees out.

back before there were fan clutches, it doesnt seem like they were as loud as they are today, dad had a '74 ford truck, big six, solid connection between fan and water pump, it didnt seem to make much noise, but it did have fewer blades, could be why i 'spose. it would be neat if there was a pin you could put in or remove, wouldnt have any need at all for a fan in the winter, but summer it would need to be "on" all the time.

Quite fine by me. I know mine is working, when I got the blazer you could stick your fingers in the fan at idle and not even get a ow out of anyone. Also the fan stopped dead in its tracks.
