Default Fuel pump/Battery

Hello all,

I have an issue with my 2002 Blazer that I would like some advice on.

It has been starting hard for a while. I have to turn the key to ON and let it sit for a few seconds before it would start. I could always hear what I think is the fuel pump buzz for 5 seconds or so. This morning I went out after it had not moved for 3 days and did the same thing but I didn't hear any buzzing. The engine cranked a couple times but then the battery died. The battery is 2.5 years old so I am reasonably sure that it needs to be replaced. I am charging it now and I will see if that helps.

My questions are these: Is 2.5 years about the lifespan of a normal battery? It's a Walmart battery so Im sure the quality isn't that good
Also, am I correct in assuming that my fuel pump is dead based on the lack of a buzzing noise?

Thank you in advance for any help. I apologize if this issue has been discussed before. I tried searching but I couldn't find any threads addressing these issues.

If the battery is still in warranty I would go ahead and get it replaced. I have put two fuel pumps in my truck, of course I went the cheap route and paid for it. You could check the fuel pump relay switch/fuse under the hood first and make sure those are good. If they are good and your fuel pump is not making a whinning sound it will more than likely be shot.

After I charged the battery it started on the first try. I also heard the fuel pump. Only think I can think of is the battery was really dead. I'm going to get a new one tomorrow.

On a related note. After I put the battery back all my gauges went haywire. The speedo read 100mph and the fuel gauge is pointing 180 degrees from E. The speedo went back to normal but the fuel is still weird. Any ideas on how to get it reading right?
