Default hard shifting going from 1st to 2nd

my 1998 blazer 4.3 auto 4x4 shifts hard going from 1st gear to 2nd, this isnt all the time just sometimes, it lets the rpms get a little high then it shifts really hard,it chirps the tires sometimes, what could make this happen? i just got the blazer about 2days ago an im wanting to get it all fixed cause its going to be my family vehichle/light trail rider

My 95 4wd has a hard shift from 1-2 as well, but it doesnt chirp tires although it now does it basically all the time. I had it checked out yesterday and was told I need to replace my torque converter. And the part isnt all that expensive thank goodness.

I might be wrong but I believe there was a TSB on hard 1-2 shifts. I will have to do some digging when I get home lol.

check the 1-2 shift solenoid it should have a resistance between 19 and 24 ohms cold around 68 degrees f and 24-31 hot up 200 d f so if its between 19 and 31 ohms of resistance its a good part if not replace them they are cheap. 1-2 and 2-3 solenoids are the same part number and i would replace them at the same time its real easy to do, drop the trans pan and you will see them right by the transfer case support there is a c clip that holds them in place grab it with a pear of needle nose pliers and pull straight down take car when removing the solenoid there are parts behind it springs ect.. re-install in the reverse order check and make sure the electrical connections are in good shape re-install pan add 6-8 quarts of trans fluid =test drive see a link on diagnosing shift solenoids 1-2 2-3 Part 2 -Shift Solenoid A and B Tests. P0700, P0751, P0753, P0756 (GM 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L) good luck

Have you checked your fluid level? How old is the fluid in the trans? It may just need serviced.
