Default Help - Broken shift stud 4L80e

In swapping out a 4L80e, I had to change the shift bracket mounted on the transmission. There is a single nut that holds the bracket to a stud that connects inside the tranmission. The stud broke off when I tried to remove it. Any ideas on how to change the stud? It has a nut on the other end but the stud goes deeper into the tranny. Thanks.

Any welding on the shift shaft will destroy the lip seal that keeps dirt out & tranny fluid in.

THIS SCHEMATIC shows the shaft. It is held in place by a retaining ring. I believe that this retaining ring is on the inside of the pan and should be readily visible with the pan off. Once the pan is removed, you should be able to pull off the nut on the shift detent comb & then remove the retainer. From there, the shift shaft should be able to be removed.
