HELP PLEASE with AC problem
I have a '99 zr2 blazer that doesn't blow cold or even cool air. Tried to recharge it (there's a good possibility that I didn't do it right) but still just warm air. I can hear the compressor (I thinkg that's what it is) kick on, but it doesn't stay on. Stays on less than 20 seconds. I'm a disabled vet and can't afford to take it to a mechanic. I'm a female, so I don't trust taking it to a mechanic anyway bc it seems they try to talk over me to justify them doing work that they don't need to do. Somebody please give me some suggestions.
you can get a recharge kit at the store with the gauge attached...it sounds like your compressor is working but your out of freon.
mine did that till i recently charged it with the store bought tank. the compressor is trying to build up pressure but your out of freon.
i would go to one auto parts store that you like and be consistent...the employees around my area at my store of choice are pretty friendly and have been helpful...i have been going there for years. that might help you with quick info and questions you may have.

X2 - on the low freon, there's 2 possibilities that come to mind: 1. It wasn't charged up high enough (I charged mine to just under 50 psi) or 2. It WAS charged up high enough but you have a leak that is just that big - it's (almost) all gone again
After I had mine re-charged the compressor would run continuously while the A/C was on - that was a month ago and it's already started cycling off for short cycles
Up here in canada we have those DYI re-charge kits that are miraculously currently un-regulated by our worthy government. In addition to the bottles of magic 're-fill fluid/gas' there are also bottles available that add lubricating oil to the system, or re-condition seals, or are the all important 'leak stop'.
You might try re-charging your system again and see if it leaks down this time. Use a kit that has a gauge attached like warthog said - the bottles can get expensive but they're still usually cheaper than a shop. I had mine re-charged with propane so it's no biggie to me if it leaks down again a few times till i track down the leak. $10 goes a long way to fill it
