High RPMs, slow acceleration
#11
Ok. Here's what happens. If I let it go, it will get up to approximately 4000 RPMs before it shifts. However, when it gets up to 3000 or so, if I let off the gas, it will shift. It takes a while to get to 45 MPH.
I had the codes read and there weren't any.
I'm going to take it to a tranny specialist today to see if they can tell me what's up. Then I may be using some Lucas until I get paid to get it fixed.

it could be as simple as a trans filter and fluid change. Had an issue with my wifes van, very similar issue and it only had 70k on the clock. The filter and fluid change smoothed it out. it has been great. Get it check and then have the tranny serviced. All you can loose is a little $ for the service.

When I went to get gas, I checked the fluid again. It is full and isn't dirty. I made an appointment to have my tranny checked tomorrow! Will let you know what I find. Thanks for all your help guys!

I have a similar problem with my 2004 4WD Blazer. It’s a strange problem that only occurs in the summer when the ambient temperature gets above 900F or so. I have had transmissions slip in the past ad this doesn’t seem to be your typical transmission slip. When accelerating from a dead stop the vehicle seems to move off of the line and gain speed at a normal rate, but the engine RPMs are disproportionately high. It’s like I’m in “granny gear”. It will run at close to 4000 RPMs until it shifts into second them everything goes back to normal. It only occurs when accelerating from a dead stop in June, July and August when the temperatures in Arizona are rarely below 1000F even at night.
I had the fluid and filter changed but it had no effect. I get no check engine light and it runs through the rest the gears just fine. I am thinking it has something to do with the torque converter but I’m no transmission expert. I am considering installing an aftermarket transmission cooler but that seems more like a Band-Aid than a repair.
Any ideas?

That could be the torque converter.
