a hose on top of the tranny?

Hello, I just want to know what is the little hose that is on the top of my automatic transmission? It is about 1 to 1.5 feet long and just hangs off to the side of my tranny. I would guess it is either the breather tube or maybe if the ATF level gets too high that is where it escapes?
Any thoughts?

Yes to all.
Its a vent hose, breather hose, and yes if your tranny fluid gets too hot, or overfilled it will spew out the hose. On the flip side, it will also draw in water during a river crossing. I highly recommend you run it up into the engine compartment before you do any water crossings. [8D]
