knock/ticking sound from top of engine
hello guy, we all know how it goes, once you fix one thing on your ride, another breaks down and needs fixing..so im back at it again. now that i have the car running there is this ticking sound coming from the top of the engine. what happened was that, as me dad was trying to "diagnose" why the car was running muggy he reved the engine pretty high for a couple of times, after the third time the ticking/knocking sound started. i dont know what a rocker or lifter sounds like so i want to make sure before i start pulling stuff off. the sound reminds me of a diesel truck, if anyone gets what i mean. thanks for the help.

this is what it sounds like..its that weird ticking, it seems to be coming from the front because of how i recorded it, but it sounds more like the top, idk..any thoughts?

Guess I better cover all the bases. I hate being wrong. COULD also be collapsed lifter. Or pulled rocker stud. Whatever.. it's in the valvetrain assy
TEACHABLE MOMENT:
NEVER EVER rev someone else's engine anywhere near redline.
I've done it to myself.. I'd be really pissed if someone else did it..
Riding with buddy in his 57 chev 327. His clutch tended to slip. He started another test run and it REALLY slipped, so he got mad and just kept it floored.. I yelled for him to stop and he didnt.
I yanked my feet up on the seat just before the clutch blew and ripped the bellhousing to pieces.. he didnt have a scattershield..
He was lucky. His feet stayed intact. Just put a single gash in the hump but the tranny was hanging nose down .
My BorgWarner T10 4 Speed, that he'd just begged me to borrow a week before.
Of course he never gave me a single dollar for the parts to fix it.

OMFG STOP REVVING IT! lol That just drives me crazy hearing that sound, sorry.
Pull the valve covers, that's the place to start.
Hopefully it's a bent pushrod but the WHY it's bent could be much worse. Possibly a collapsed lifter like petty said that caused a pushrod to get bent. Rare but possible or who knows, any number of things, stud let go, spring broke, rocker broke...
