Default Loss of 3rd after trans filter change

Need help! I have a 98 blazer 4 door 4x4. I dropped the trans pan and replaced the filter, buttoned it up, added Lucas additive and trans fluid, and went for a drive. when I get to 30mph the trans seems to go to neutral. I have check the fluid in park on level ground with trans up to temp and I am right at where I should. I really am at a loss now and dont know what to do. Anyone have an idea please let me hear it. I am thinking of dropping the pan again to make sure the filter didnt fall down and get stuck to the pan. Anything you can think of would be appreciated.

Is it possible you could have bumped the shift solenoids when you rmoved the pan? If yours is a 4wd the only way to get good clearance is to drop the cross member. Trying to wiggle the pan off without lowering the cross member can result in damaged shift solenoids. I learned my lesson on this one.

Was the Transmission acting funny before filter and fluid change ? How many miles are on this transmission ? Also did you replace the filter sleeve with the one that comes with the new trans filter? Also do you have the Standard or Deep Transmissin pan with the Correct filter?

I'd be more concerned with possible damage to the wiring harness inside the pan than a shift solenoid. I have seen quite a few damaged harnesses from improper pan removal and reassembly. You likely hit the 2-3 shift solenoid wiring.

Yeah I loosened the crossmember and the transmission was acting perfectly beforehand. Yes I installed a new seal for the filter. I have the standard pan and checked to make sure I had the right filter.

It is wet and cold out again so I am on hold. "Its great to have back up vehicles." I only have a one car garage and I can barely fit with all the tools inside and the concrete is freezing right now but I will be looking at it tommorrow. Going to drop the pan and look around to make sure I didnt disconnect something on accident. why is it that when you try to do some thing good for a vehicle it bites you in the butt? Ill let you know what I find tommorrow.

Well I dropped the pan again. After cleaning off the valve body and looking around closely I found the problem. I must have tapped the 2-3 shift soleniod just right and cracked the cover. I replaced with a new one and now it drives perfectly. Thank you everyone for your support.

That would do it! Glad you found the problem and that it was an easy enough fix!
