Default Lost my mark on rotor.

I'll skip the bs and get right to the point. After getting my distributor in and my truck started and running great...for a few minutes...the distributor kept making a sound like a piece of paper in a fan blade. So I shut it down and realized that it wasn't aligned with the mark I made, so I pulled out the distributor and lined it up again. Shortly thereafter I realized that the rotor spins, so of course it wasn't lined up. Now, how do I find out where the rotor should be? Thank you.

the rotor has a tooth it should only enter the shaft the way its suppose to be

If the tooth on the rotor is gone you should replace it

The rotor is fine and brand new. Pretend I didn't mark the dizzy before I pulled it off though. How would I find out which way it's supposed to point?

That's exactly what I needed. Thank you very much. I'm so close to having it running again I'm doing this.
