Default Metal shavings on oil plug

When i bought the blazer I changed the oil and there were metal shavings on the oil plug. 4 months later I went to check the oil and it was a quart low with 1500 miles on oil change. Im a mechanic in the U.S.Navy Seabees should I go ahead and order a rebuild kit and rebuild the engine with the good stuff or ride it out and see how long it will last? I have a 2009 silverado which is a great truck. The Blazer is my wife's truck that she drives around town to the grocery store and we only plan on keeping it for another 2 years. Will it be worth the hassle and time?

Hmm.. This is a tough one, is it knocking, ticking or any of that nature, what kind of oil are you using? are their any oil leaks, or is it just burning that much oil between changes?

I drove my 97 Blazer 100,000 miles with that type of oil usage. Dump a half a quart of Lucas Oil Treatment in it every oil change & run it. Back in the day we use to say if a Chevy isn't using oil look out it was about to blow. Oil is cheap compared to rebuilding. Having a few metal shavings isn't anything to worry about as long as it isn't rods or main bearings knocking. Mine had a counter balance shaft that knocked over 3000 rpms over 1500 idle.

a quart low on only 1500 miles into the oil change is quite a bit, if there is not an oil leak, something else is going on there
Heck, I have bad valve seals, and 185k miles, leaky oil cooler lines to the block, and I only go through a quart every oil change (7-8k miles)
