When it is out of wack can u feel the misfire at all or can the computer just sense that it is happening I can't feel any misfire aside from when it cuts out for the half second it does when driving at a cruising speed

It isn't necessarily misfiring at all. It might just be giving a bad signal that the PCM interprets as a misfire.

Gotcha that almost has to be what is happening that's gone on as long as I've had it for about a year and a half the previous owner may have replaced the crank sensor at one time and never did the relearn or shim before I even got it I may have been chasing misfires that never existed at one point I did have a bad plug wire I think on cylinder 5 but the computer never threw a code for cylinder 5 misfiring it was just p0300 but was misfiring bad bad I figured it out replacing them one at a time that it was number five the computer should have been able to tell me which cylinder was misfiring from the bad plug wire as bad as it was misfiring at the time with that wire so misfire detection I'd say was never that accurate thanks for the help I'll probably try to find a scanner and do the sensor hopefully it helps with the random cut out as well not sure what else that would be

Least expensive scanner I know of that will do crank sensor relearn is Vident i-link 400. Tom is giving you great advice! No need for me to butt in! (Other than the scanner)
