Default motor swap - will this work?

I have a 1996 GMC Jimmy "w" code 4.3 with bad bearings. I took a good motor out of a 1995 Blazer "w" code 4.3. Just wondering if I can just swap out the '95 motor into the '96 and what other parts might be required for the swap? I have a full parts truck here, so I have all the stuff I might need.

Anyone done this before & have any insight? Thanks!

Don't go backwards. It can be done, but you will only be able to use the short block. The heads on up are different. There are also some other differences in sensors, etc.

I don't really want to go backwards, but it's a shame to not use a freshly built motor. I knew the heads & intake were different from 95-96. But if I was to take the wiring harness & computer out of the '95, would it hook into the '96 easy enough that I could just drop in the '95 motor?

wait a minute.........didn't i already see this question in another thread by you lower_level? the '95 & '96 years, along with the "W" code sure seems to ring a bell..........
as for swapping comp & harness, i'm 99.9% sure that it'd be a no go on that.

kyle Im wondering about this heads and sensors thing because im taking the 4.3 from my 2000 and putting it in my 95.
other than the intake manifolds and injector systems being different. im lost. because the heads on my 2000 still have 2 screw in plugs for the spark knock sensors that my 95 has.
the 2000 has a coolant temp sensor in the left head and the knock sensor is in the rear of the motor. the right head has a plug in it instead of a knock sensor.
any help is appreciated.

If it was a repost, I appologize. Must not have been paying attention.

As for the harness swap being a nogo... that really sucks! It was a thought to get that old truck running again. Ah well!
