Default Moving motor forward

Hi all,

I am in the midst of replacing the right-side motor mount and it appears the engine has shifted back a bit. I suspect this might have been related to why the old one had a separation between the top plate and the rubber in the original mount.

I've tried shifting the engine forward by lifting it just a bit with a floor jack and using a pry bar between the front of the shock tower and the inside of the first leg of the exhaust manifold. When it looks aligned I drop the engine so that it holds itself in place against the mount. So far I can almost get the forward-top bolt hole of the motor mount aligned with the hole for the bolt on the block. The problem is that with the engine weight on the mount, I can't easily shift the mount to get it to line up with the hole on the block.

The lower mounting bolts for the transmission are free at the moment too. These mounting bolts are at the rearward end of the oval slots that they go through which makes me think everything has shifted aft.

I checked the new mount against the old one and the bolt holes lined up so I don't think the problem is with the new part.

I'm posting here if by chance anyone else has had to deal with a similar situation and find out what their solution was.

Thanks

P.S. As I was rereading my post, I wondered if removing the transmission mounting bolts that connect the mount to the transmission might help free up some possible motion or just result in the engine and transmission shifting further back.

I say yes to removing those bolts. Hopefully you'll be able to move everything forward the amount you need to. Good luck!
