My Recent tale of AAMCO Transmissions (LONG)
As some of us know I have posted in the "what have you done to your blazer today" thread a few times about the Transmission in my 98 Bravada.
about 2wks ago the truck threw a service awd light, got to work, shut off the truck and when it was time to go, Turned on the truck and no light. got it home still no light. Wife took it to store and light was on, so she went to AZ ( I knew they couldnt read the trans because they lack Tech2 gear) but she went anyway turned the truck off went inside and came back out with one of the AZ folks with a scan tool, turned the truck on and of course NO LIGHT.
She got a printout of 2 codes P0300 and P1870. I knew about the Valvebody issue and when she called me on the printouts I immediately went hunting for a "revised" VB.
She brought it home still no light, So I decided to take the truck and grab some coffee, started truck light came on and this is where it didnt fluctuate anymore, It stayed on. So my plan was to take it to my buddies shop as a worth while shot. We went threw the ordeals of the TSB's and check over some stuff...sadly they didnt have Tech2 gear either. So I decided to take it to AAMCO, for their free trans check.
Come to find out the Trans had lost pressure inside itself, So i opted for the rebuild. After a bunch of headaches and alot of money (2,483.91 worth) The service AWD light was still on (truck STILL at AAMCO) they said the encoder motor was not getting a proper signal.. ok fine I told them to replace it, they order the wrong part, ordered the right part and then they said that they checked the wiring, it was ok, AND the encoder motor was ok and now the TCCM is bad.
They were nice enough to bring me the TCCM to me standing in the office... I checked it visually and they tried to incinuate to me that I was in the box.... No I have been nowhere NEAR my TCCM in the 98, and i explained that very calmly. however it did look as if someone took a flathead and pried the tabs on the backside of the box, not only that but there were NO part number stickers on it ANYWHERE
I could get a new TCCM for 425 and some change, I said I NEED the truck and I can find the TCCM elsewhere for half that price. We agreed that the old TCCM would be installed but NO power applied to it.
They did some test and came to the conclusion that the service AWD light only comes on if the power is applied to the TCCM... It will click a few times (the tccm) and then set the MIL.
So they determined that the TCCM is bad. So now for the past 2 days I have been driving my 98 and my wife has taken my 97 for the time being, all the while reading info on making sure i get the RIGHT tccm for my truck(since im hunting blind without a part number). I found one for 80 shipped
PN-15014261 is what i ordered. seller stated that is crosses with 12577413 and that it will work with 98-00 Bravada, 98up safari, and astro...which is the apparent number I needed according to the biggest chevy parts department in lake county Il (they checked by VIN) it looks dead nut the same to my current numberless TCCM (big orange and small black plugs).
So now, my questions.
Driving this truck without the small black plug of the TCCM connected going to hurt ANYTHING? this truck will be driven as little as possible for obvious reasons but itll be unhooked till the new TCCM is in.
also did i order the right TCCM? beleive me id rather be out 80.00 then 425.00 LOL.
Sorry for the long story, and it could be very much more detailed by adding the lack of proper business like communication but i left out the juicy bits, lol
