I have a 4x4 96 Jimmy 4.3 that need a new engine. I have two possibilities my brother has a 2 wheel 97 chevy 1500 with a 4.3. Also I can buy the old shop truck and it's an 05 2 wheel chevy 1500 with a vortec 4.3. Will either of these engines work? What years are compatible to my 96 4.3 vortec?

 

Use the 1997 engine. Put your intake/exhaust manifolds, oil pan, oil pump pickup tube and all accessories from your Blazer on it.

1996-2000 engines should be compatible with your vehicle if you do it this way. Newer than 2000 have issues with a different knock sensor mounting in the block.
