Default new motor wont start

hey yall, dont post much here but i need advice.

i just had to put a new motor in my DD 1984 k5 blazer, i put a chevy 350 bored .030 over with a mid range cam, keith black flat top pistons, ported and polished heads, and a single plane high rise intake ( i know i need to get a dual but this intake came with the motor) with a holley 600cfm 4barrel, and a accell super coil. the motor turns over, and i have fuel and spark but i cant get it to start i have tried setting the timing a few times, not even so much as a pop or back fire im stumped. this motor is used but its good i know the guy who rebuilt it. could the timing simply be the problem or is there anything else that could cause this other then timing?

Have you checked that the timing marks line up? You have fuel and ignition, it could be a timing problem. Unless you aren't getting enough air in the engine so the A/F mixture isn't right. If so, that could possibly flood your engine. There's just so many things that could happen.

i think it may be the timing, because it dont make any sounds and makes no smoke so there is nothing combusting what so ever, and thats what worries me.i have tried several methods of finding TDC and none have made a difference

what methods have you tried? Are there timing marks on the outside of the timing chain cover like on 2nd gen blazers? Also, have you tried the easiest way of taking out the #1 cylinder plug and rotating the engine until you feel compression? How are you setting up your distributor?

i used a mixed method of putting my finger over the hole and watching the valves, making sure both look closed. when i set the dizzy in i match up the oil pump slot and point the rotor twords cyl #1.

i found one problem, the plug wire diagram i was using (from a reputable site) was wrong i had a feeling something simple like that was screwing everything up, the plug numbers were correct but location on the dizzy was wrong. i redid the wires and hastily pulled the dizzy, half assed found TDC on #1 and tried to start it. forgot to put the plug back in so of course it didnt start ( i got ahead of myself and got excited lol ) but even when i replaced the plug and wire it would not start. but still no poping, backfiring or anything
