New TV cable issue

Hi Guys,
to make a long story short - i have a 90' blazer for the past 4 years.
ever since i can remember i had this strange issue: when i'm at cruising speed the transmission feels like it can't decide in which gear it wants to be, it constantly shifts out of fourth gear and back.
eventually i came into conclusion that the TV cable is probably bad so i ordered a new one from LMC.
after the installation the cutting disappeared but then i noticed the shifting is all messed up. when i apply moderate gas it will delay the fourth gear, and when i'm squeezing it a bit more the second and the third shifts are late... very late.
the transmission is a 700R4, the cable is self adjustable and the one i bought from LMC is not a universal one that you need to modify.
so, as far as i concern i made the only adjustment i know, and found available online. i pushed the tab, took the slider all the way back and squeezed the paddle until the throttle lever was open all the way. i heard the clicks i'm supposed to hear, saw the slider moves out and that's it.
my biggest concern is that i'm making damage to the transmission by driving with this issue, i would appreciate it if someone can tell me what more there is to do.
thanks in advance, yarin.
