So I am starting to get the opinion that 90% of transmission mechanics are scumballs... I have yet to meet the other 10%.
I am going nuts, I just want to get my transmission rebuilt without getting shafted. I can't freakin babysit a mechanic just to make sure he replaces the parts he charges me for. I swear I would just freaking learn to rebuild it myself if I could in a reasonable cost affective way, but alas I can't.
Does anyone here know of any HONEST transmission mechanics in the Portland, Oregonarea? Honestly I dont give a rats patooty about a warranty I just want it done right so I know it will last! What good is a warranty when the shop rigs it to fail? Argg! What can I do guys? What is my best option? I am trying to get a 1996 4L60E rebuilt and installed in my 4dr 4wd.

Not what I was expecting from a thread. Vaseline is routinely used when rebuilding a transmission, it holds checkballs, gaskets and seals in place untill the tranny is assembled.
Did you find a decent shop yet?
Why do you feel they aren't giving you good service?

Well, I remembered I have a buddy in my hometown that works at a trans shop. They quoted me a good deal, $1300 for rebuild with good parts +quality clutch pack and shift kit. so It should work but I have to trailer my truck 100 miles to get it done. It just seems that since there is no regulations and once a tranny is put back together you cant see in it, that either you will pay way too much for good work or if you get a deal the work is guaranteed to be shotty. There is just too much markup allowed and with the economy the way it is they seem to think theye can just charge more to make up for the loss in buisness. i would love to just rebuild it myself but alas I dont have the time or space to do it. I love my truck so inevitably I WILL learn to rebuild this tranny myself
Sorry for the vaseline confusion!
