i would honestly always get a second opinion another shop could tell you all you need is the reverse part of the tranni fixed or that you just need a rebuild done on it instead of getting a whole new tranni unless a new one is cheaper than rebuilding one you just have to weigh your options

I would lean towards the tranny being shot, and from what I remember, it is about the same price to have one rebuilt vs buying a reman one. But yes, get a second opinion,.

If you buy a new tranny you get all the original partsin it.
When you get yours rebuilt they upgrade to stronger parts and it typically costs less then a new tranny.

If you lost reverse you are more then likely looking at a rebuild. To rebuild reverse you need to take everything out of the tranny. reverse gears are the very last set in the tranny. Since you have everything apart, might as well rebuild it, your already there.
You can save some money by removing the trannyand reinstalling it yourself. If this insterests you, Idid a write up on it in the self-help section.
