rotor that spins inside of distributer cap

the cap itself has burn marks on the inside but the guy at auto zone said its probably ok can some one help with with some other things i might try im not ready to replace the cap yet because spark is not even getting to it because i can't get the end of the coil wire to arc to a piece of metal

id replace the cap if I replaced everything else.

theres a lot of tests to do and to much to type out, but you should get a chiltons or Haynes manual and the have pages of steps you should do when testing the ignition system.

(p.s. don't take advice from auto zone cashiers.
